"Barbie" star Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to join Shawn Levy's upcoming "Star Wars" movie.

Levy and screenwriter Jonathan Tropper have been collaborating on their Star Wars project for over two years. There's no word on the plotlines for the film, but there's no doubt that fans will be excited to get an exciting new chapter. The current release calendar places an untitled "Star Wars" movie for December 17, 2027, but fans can indulge in other Star Wars properties until then, such as "The Mandalorian and Grogu", slated for release on May 22, 2026. Tropper has collaborated in the past with Levy on hits including "The Adam Project" and "This Is Where I Leave You".

The film is said to be a standalone story, unconnected to the Luke Skywalker saga of Episodes I-IX. It is said that production will hopefully begin this fall, with further announcements likely at this year's Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo.

Levy has cemented his status as a Disney favorite with Marvel Studios' "Deadpool & Wolverine", the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, earning an impressive $1.33 billion globally. It's no surprise that Disney is keen to keep him at the helm of significant projects.

The last "Star Wars" movie to hit theaters was 2019's The Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX), which garnered $515.2 million domestically and $1.077 billion worldwide.

Ryan Gosling is fresh off the monumental success of "Barbie", in which he delivered a performance that helped Warner Bros. achieve its highest-grossing movie ever at $1.44 billion. A three-time Oscar nominee for his roles in "Barbie" (Best Supporting Actor), "La La Land" (Lead Actor), and "Half Nelson" (Lead Actor), proving he is a box office draw.
